Nutritional Therapy

Nutritional therapy is about much more than just healthy eating or weight management. It can have far-reaching, beneficial effects on a wide range of health conditions including infertility. Nutrition forms the basis of our Natural Fertility plans.
Our diets have changed dramatically over the past 50 years. Modern farming methods mean that our food lacks many of the vital nutrients, leaving many of us deficient in the vitamins and minerals that are essential for both male and female fertility. This is reflected in our fertility - sperm counts have dropped 50% over the last 10 with an increasing number of sperm abnormalities, years and female hormone imbalance is becoming increasingly common.
Our bodies are highly dependent on a myriad of nutrients and micronutrients. Imbalances or shortages of these key nutrients can cause a range of vague but worrying symptoms from low energy, persistent colds/ infections, aches and pains to more major complaints. Nutritional therapists analyse lifestyle and diet and, where appropriate, use a range of laboratory tests to diagnose imbalances and deficiencies. From this, a personalised, negotiated individual plan, comprising lifestyle and dietary recommendations with a programme for high quality supplements, can be implemented.

Whilst there are many books on the subject, this cannot replace a personalised one to one consultation with a nutritional specialist. You are more likely to make the changes required after having the importance of these changes explained to you, and by having someone that can support you through these changes.

Certain screening tests may be recommended for both you and your partner to help to identify specific problems which need to be addressed as part of the treatment plan, for example:

Female Hormone Test

The Female Hormone Test analyses levels of oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone over 28 days using 11 saliva samples. This test is helpful for women with menstrual irregularities, difficulties with ovulation, infertility, premenstrual syndrome, problems with the phasing of the cycle such as a short luteal phase (second half of the cycle) and problems with maintaining progesterone levels which can increase the risk of miscarriages. This test can still be done even if you have irregular cycles.

Hair Analysis Test.

This is one of the most convenient and cost effective ways to determine your nutritional status, and test for the presence of toxic heavy metals in your body.

Bioelectrical Impedance Measurements (BIM) using the latest sophisticated technology

As part of your nutritional consultation, why not include a test on our Bioelectrical Impedance Measurement machine to help investigate further the possible cause of your health problems? There is a small additional cost for this, but the results of the test will give a much greater insight into where the imbalances are in your body.

What is Bioelectrical Impedance?
BIM analyses energy at meridian points and this indicates probable areas of imbalance in the different body systems.  This form of health assessment is based on research which established that there is a network of energy channels, called meridians, around the body, many of which correspond to acupuncture points.  By measuring the electrical conductivity at these meridian points, disturbances in body function can be detected.

What does it involve?
The process of assessment is safe and non-invasive and involves using a probe to apply a tiny electrical current (which is completely painless) to 58 key meridian points.  The electrical conductivity at these points is recorded and sophisticated software analyzes the meridian data and generates an easy-to-read chart which identifies areas of the body that have moved away from normal.  A reading of 50 is ideal, above 50 indicates stress or inflammation while below 50 indicates weakness or degeneration.

In addition to highlighting which body systems need attention, the software can be used to generate a personalised supplement programme to complement the dietary and lifestyle changes recommended to help you get your body back into balance and symptom-free.

What do I need to do?
If you are interested in this screening process, please let our receptionist know and she will allocate the appropriate time so that the test can be included during your nutrition consultation.

The day before your appointment, please:

  1. Don’t drink any alcohol.
  2. But do drink at least 1.5-2 litres of water in the 24 hrs before your test.

On the day of your appointment, please:

  1. Do not wear any jewellery that you do not wear on a regular basis. Wedding rings, for example, are fine, but you will be asked to remove any jewellery that you do not consistently wear.
  2. Do not put any creams or powder on your hands or feet, as this may interfere with the results.
  3. Make sure that you do not have your mobile on your person.
  4. Make sure that you are well hydrated.  Drink water or non-caffeinated herbal drinks rather than teas and coffees.

If you would like further information on this test, then please contact one of our receptionists.
